Today's Saturday Poem in the Guardian is Bishop in Louisiana by Frances Leviston.
So far this year, this column has featured 20 male poets and 9 female poets.

  1. I clicked on the clicky thing but a rather turgid thing about birds appeared so I clicked on Frances Leviston and then read 'Humbles' and what a contrast, bloody, disgusting, terrible, visceral, brilliant!

  2. yes - for whatever reason the Guardian haven't updated the poem of the week online to Frances Leviston's poem yet, but I'm glad you found her website - that poem is very powerful isn't it - and her others are good as well

  3. The gender imbalance in the representation of poetry in the press is quite alarming once you start to look out for it! Have you read the introduction by Eva Salzman in 'Women's Work: Modern Women Poets Writing in English'? I'd recommend it if you're interested in such issues. (http://amzn.to/d5t3XH)
